As I Sit Down to Eat Help me take a breath and listen To the voice I hear within Help me nurture who I am Who I am's not fat or thin Breathing like the ocean Standing tall as a tree Burning like a wildfire As I sit down to eat Pranayama, kapalabhati, dirgha, Dear God, let me be a mindful eater Goddess, let me flow like tumbling water Fire, burn away what is not needed Burn away what is not needed Let me roll my toes and shoulders Let me salute the sun Let me thank the earth and flowers For all the work they’ve done Breathing like the ocean Standing tall as a tree Burning like a wildfire As I sit down to eat (Repeat Chorus) Am I drinking hatred with my coffee? Am I eating envy with my bread? Do I leave ideas undigested? Swallow feelings left unsaid? Can I be right here in the moment? Am I looking front and back? Too much food is not enough To make up for the love we lack Pranayama, kapalabhati, dirgha, Dear God, let me be a mindful eater Goddess, let me flow like tumbling water Fire, burn away what is not needed Burn away what is not needed May all beings have enough (Repeat chorus 3 x) c 2014 words and music by JoAnne Spies

Where is the Watershed? c 2014 words and music by JoAnne Spies Whe e e e ere’s the watershed? Whe e e e ere’s the watershed? I was standin’ by the riverside Lost in my pride Never knowin’ in my heart or head I am water, by water am led Hold me, tumblin’ down Find me underground Magic, simple sound I’m water, missin’ and found Where’s the watershed? Where’s the watershed? Where is the watershed/ Does it shimmy, like a waterbed? Is it heavy, like a ton of lead? Up, down, overhead Where’s the watershed? Let the spirit of earth and sky Keep me, when I fly Carry me to the sea I am water, I am free Where’s the watershed? Where’s the watershed? Drainin’ rainin’ underground Snowin’ seepin’ creepin’ down Can you catch it? Make a water sound Can you see it? It’s all around Can you feel it? Sky to the ground Where is the watershed? The world needs your tears Not just your petty fears The world needs your tears Repeat Landlocked, full of fear Sound your torrent that I may hear Where I’m stubborn let me flow Where I'm ignorant let me know Where is the watershed? Does it shimmy, like a waterbed? Is it heavy, like a ton of lead? Up, down, overhead Where’s the watershed? Twelve thousand years of tears are standing in my throat A hundred million fears are woven in my coat Illusion and memory are all the same Can you tell me, what is my name Beyond the mountains I move along My voice is hidden then my voice is strong After so much silence and separation Will you praise my beauty, my reparation? Where is the Watershed? The world needs your tears Where is the watershed?

Survivor Tree (Water your Roots) You stood in the darkest day Covered in fire and ash Even your roots were blown away How could you be so torn Come back and be reborn Come back and hold the sky today? We watered your roots Nurtured your shoots Sheltering you Take all our tears And water your roots with love Chorus: Water your roots with love Water your roots with peace Water your roots with love and peace (Repeat Chorus) Where we have fallen We will rise Where we are ignorant Let us be wise When we are sure we’re right Instead of fight We’ll water your roots with love Chorus: Water your roots with love Water your roots with peace Water your roots with love and peace (Repeat Chorus) Where we are blinded Let us see When we lose courage Help us stand like a tree When we’re divided We know our roots go deep and united, We’ll water our roots with love We’ll water our roots with love We’ll water our roots with peace We’ll water our roots with love and peace We’ll water our roots with love Water our roots with peace Water our roots with love and peace words and music by JoAnne Spies

about

"Folk soul spiritual sister with a vision delivers sing along pop gems..."-- Robby Baier

"JoAnne Spies is a cosmic bard with soul"-- Amber Chand

'For years JoAnne Spies has been devoted to her folk guitar, writing melodies that soared and lyrics that fluttered in the heart like white birds. Always your feet would tap ~ now your whole body will move. Collaborating with hip hop artist Jackson Whalan and musician producer Robby Baier, Giovanna's music starts with the elemental earth and moves through water, fire and air.'

"I absolutely love these songs! You did such a great job of bringing consciousness in to singable, danceable, and enjoyable hip music."
~ Henry Horning

"These songs are for celebration, moving meditation and transformation.

I hope you dance to these songs through the day with as much high energy and joy as I had creating them.

Over the years I've gone to noon DanceKinetics (now Yoga Dance) at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health and imagined my own songs playing as we all danced.

Thanks to SubStation team extraordinaire Jackson Whalan and Robby Baier for the musicianship and sensitivity they brought to our collaboration.

Many thanks to pioneer teachers Gabrielle Roth, Megha, Toni Bergins, Dan Leven, Jurian Hughes and others for sharing the music and the means to move body and soul.
