about

"Standing in a Circle" comes from many sources.
A workshop with Carlos Nakai and Nawang Khechog sharing their wisdom at Kripalu is one. Mr. Nakai reminded us to remember the long line of our mothers and to remember that we stand in a circle. Mr. Khechog offered his idea for a day of kindness and how that would change the world.
The idea of meeting in the middle came from hospice work through Community Access to the Arts a few years back. I met with a man who kept visiting Leif Erickson's boat in Norway in his imagination, and made up a song to sing to him where we both sailed on the boat. Eventually the song transformed into meeting him in the middle of the ocean as he traveled homeward.

This song is tailored for yoga dance classes and ecstatic dances.
There are instructions in the middle of the song to stomp your feet, clap your hands, move on back and say hey hey as folks dance in a circle, meeting in the middle.
This song can been be used in mediation and reconciliation settings.

'Ready, willing and able' is the 2014-2015 theme for Community Access to the Arts where I'm on the faculty.

Are you ready? Are you willing? Are you able?

We are standing in a circle
Our home is right here at our feet
Let there be a day of kindness
For everyone we meet
